After our exhilarating experience in Siargao, we set our eyes and headed to Dahican beach in Mati. From Surigao Port, we rode a van heading to Tagum, Davao (550 php). We were lucky because the van was almost full when we arrived at the terminal and we did not have to wait long. Almost all the passengers got off at Butuan so from Butuan to Tagum, we were the only ones left in the van.
Our van driver kuya Andrew was one of the nicest people I’ve met in this trip. He had so much to tell and we enjoyed every detail of his stories. I guess that’s one of my favorite thing about travelling, the people we meet along the way. After almost 9 hours of travelling, we finally reached Tagum. You can hire kuya Andrew if you are planning to tour Mindanao. His details are attached at the the end of this post.
From Tagum, we rode a van bound for Mati. The journey took us about 2 hours. If you have motion sickness, do not forget to drink your meds because. The road going to Mati is a nightmare for those who are byahilo. It was already past midnight when we arrived in Mati and the long journey and our stomachs were already complaining. A quick snack at minute burger was a must 🙂 With our belly’s full, we hired a tricycle tot take us to Dahican beach. I love how Mati was urbanized yet felt rural at the same time. After a 30 minute ride, we finally arrived at Amihan!
The sun was already beaming when we woke up around 6:30 AM. Time for breakfast. We tried lookinf for seafood but there was none which is quite weird. We ended up with tapsilog instead hahaha.
Its was very entertaining to see kids riding their skimboard with such skills. Jon tried it to but failed epicly on the first few tries! You can rent skimboards for 200 php per hour. Surfing lessons are available too (500 php per hour)
I envy Jon because he is really good with almost all the water sports he tries while I fail on almost all!
You can also try microlight flying. It will cost you 2800 php per head but if you are like us who just wants to chill and is thrifty you can just enjoy the beach instead 🙂
