El Nido – Puerto Princesa, Palawan | No. 1 island in the World

Blogs, Travel Logs

Palawan has always been in my bucket list since it has been hailed as the worlds best island for 2 cosecutive years. Fortunately, were able to bag cheap tickets thanks to AirAsia’s ticket sale. #TeamHarthart normally does DIY trips but for our Palawan getaway, we decided to get help from a part time travel agent. I’ve been very busy with work lately hence arranging our itinerary was nearly impossible. Kevin, my friend, was very nice and helpful. He was very hands-on in arranging this trip and was able to cater to all my request. Thanks Kev! 🙂

Our flight to Puerto Princesa was the first time we experienced a morning flight. Seeing the clouds eye to eye in broad day light was such a pleasurable experience.  At around 11am, we finally reached Puerto Princesa International airport. We saw international tourists every where and felt like we were the foreigners in our own country! 80% against 20 %.  I do not like over crowded spots but in this case, I was happy and proud because people form all parts of the world travel hours and hours, days even, just to experience the beauty of the Philippines.

We were fetched by Kuya Jonel, our driver, at around 12 noon and we headed straight to underground river. When we arrived at the registration, we saw big waves crashing at the port and boats being thrown about. The bad weather was caused by the amihan/monsoon so we can’t really do anything about it. It was mother nature’s call and safety should be prioritized so we did not not argue.

It took us 7 hours to get to El Nido from Puerto Princesa. I couldn’t feel my butt anymore when we arrived at the Friendly Inn. To shake off our disappointment from the cancelled Underground River tour, we drank and played the night away and enjoy each others companies.

Our first activity for Day 2 was El Nido Tour A (Small and Big lagoon, Simizu Island, Secret Lagoon and 7 Commando). In Palawan, almost every tour I encountered needed  permits. This is one of the main reasons why I asked Kevin to help us fix our whole trip. It also saved us from the hassle of looking for places to stay, arranging transportation and such.

One of the highlight of our trip to El Nido is the island to island zip line. The 750m zipline joined Las Cabanas to Snake island. I’ve done zip lining in the past but nothing can compare to this one. The view was just breath taking. This must be what birds felt like when they’re flying. What an amazing experience. I definitely recommend this to all the peeps going to El Nido.

Day 3 was Tour C day (Hidden beach, Matinloc Shrine, Secret Beach, Talisay Beach, Helicopter Island). The waves were still very high in some places making it difficult to enter some of the beaches. It’s best if you were sandals or aqua shoes to avoid injuries. Wear life vest at all times if you are not a good swimmer!

On our last day, we headed back to Puerto Princesa and decided to try our luck again. The weather was fair and sea was calm. Luckily our Kuya Jonel was able to arrange everything for us beforehand hence we did not have to wait long and start the tour. Kudos Kuya Jonel!

For me, this is the highlight of our Palawan trip. I was just so amaze by its beauty. The inside of the cave was huge. You wouldn’t expect it to be very wide inside. The rock formation was almost other wordly. There were lots of bats too and I even so a snake waiting to catch it’s prey. I’m not gonna say too much details about this. You should experience it first hand!  The new audio device was really informative too! It will make you appreciate the beauty of the cave more. It costed us extra but hey its worth every penny. 🙂

Finally I was able to live the dream I’ve always dreamt about. To experience the wonders of Palawan is truly an unforgettable experience.
